Ok, I know my journals are usually goofy & full of laughs, but this time I'm dead serious & I would like for all of you to read this carefully & remember what you've read, your life just might depend on it.
On Oct 20th I came down with H1N1 better known as swine flu, it's now Nov 7th & I am still waiting to feel semi healthy again.
It starts fast & furious, hits you like a ton of bricks. Super high fevers & a cough, body aches, all the usual flu like symptoms. Don't bother to call your doctor if you get it, they won't see you, they'll tell you there is nothing more they can do than you can do at home. I'm going to tell you what to do at home.
See, I started feeling better & within 48 hours came down with the secondary infections they keep talking about on the news. The secondary is what almost killed me & sent a very purple Michele to the hospital........
so people, here's what to do BEFORE you get sick because once you've got it, you'll be too sick to go anywhere

Have a "Buddy system" set up with a neighbor or close friend (someone who can call or check in on you every so often during the day)

Make sure you have enough stuff in your house so you won't have to leave for at least 5-6 days (food, drinks, etc)

Stock up on Tylenol & Motrin. Take 2 Motrin then 20 minutes later take 2 Tylenol. Then keep doing that every 4 hours (I know it seems like alot, but it's the only way to keep the fever under control)

Take Mucinex or Robitussin-max (don't know generic names for them but they are out there) they help slightly.

If you have asthma, make sure you have an extra inhaler. If you have a nebulizer, ask your doctor for an extra refill of albuterol vials, you're going to need them because you'll be on that thing every 4 hours & still feel like you can't breathe.

Make sure you are drinking constantly (I'm not kidding here, the dehydration can kill you) Nothing with caffeine please as that will dehydrate you even more.

OK so now, you've made it through the first 8 days & you're feeling a bit better YAY..... maybe.... if you start feeling sick again, do yourself a favor, get to the ER it's going to hit you so fast you won't even know it hit.
Honestly people I can't quite remember how I got to the hospital, just being there & having tubes stuck in me.
Don't wait, just go, you're playing with fire. Don't mess around with it, just go.
Oh, & by the way, if you smoke, don't bother trying, it hurts too much
